Building bridges to society

Roeterseiland campus (REC) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) implements numerous initiatives linking teaching and research to practice and society. REC Impact is the hinge point listing and connecting all initiatives on the Roeterseiland Campus, located in the heart of Amsterdam.

What is REC Impact?

Our objective

As a UvA initiative, we promote impactful cooperation between Roeterseiland Campus’ faculties (Law, Social and Behavioural Sciences, Economics & Business) and society.

How?

By building a network of connections through collaboration, research and co-creation, to disseminate the knowledge generated in our faculties, and put it to use in society’s contemporary issues.

For whom?

REC Impact connects companies, non-profits, NGOs, local governments and institutions with researchers, students, teachers and innovators, creating a space for innovation to happen.

The future of education

Through the Future Learning initiative, the UvA and its collaborators work on making the campus a genuine playground for innovation. We are committed to pioneering the education of the future and to constantly experimenting, to provide our students with more opportunities to grow and blossom. To achieve this, the University of Amsterdam established the Roeterseiland Campus as a modern and innovative work environment, with courses that bridge theory and practice, together with numerous projects with one thing in common: social impact.

The University of Amsterdam

Dating back to 1632, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) is renowned on the international stage and consistently ranks among the world’s top 100 universities. Innovative research is a core focus of the university, which is spread across four campuses in Amsterdam. As well, the UvA is committed to expanding and strengthening external partnerships at an international, national and local level.

The Roeterseiland Campus

Campus Roeterseiland offers the largest cluster of social sciences in the Netherlands. The Economics and Business, Social and Behavioural Sciences and Law faculties are situated at Roeterseiland, alongside the student cultural organisation CREA. The three faculties are committed to research and collaboration, entrepreneurship and contributing knowledge and resources to society.

The faculties

Home to the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, and the Faculty of Economics and Business, Roeterseiland Campus was designed to provide an environment for all university stakeholders to reach their full potential.

Everyone interested in any of these areas and wants to share their knowledge and efforts for the benefit of society has a role to play in REC's ecosystem.

The J/K Building

A former lab for physics, the J/K building will be transformed into the home of REC-Impact: a hub for social innovation, research valorisation and entrepreneurship. Currently under construction, the building will be a space for students, researchers and innovators to work on projects, build startups and participate in real-life case studies and challenge-based education.

An educational space should not only fit in with the education that is given, but should also inspire to experiment”.
